As a seventh-generation Tennessean, Senator Shane Reeves has spent his life raising a family and opening businesses in middle Tennessee. He understands the importance of family, character, and conservative values to the people in this community.
On April 13th, Middle Tennessee State University’s president Dr. Sidney McPhee was recognized on the Senate floor in honor of his retirement. Dr. McPhee served as MTSU’s president for over twenty five years. Thank you Dr. McPhee for your service to MTSU and countless Tennessee students.

This week, I received the Champion Against Cancer Award from the American Cancer Society. I am incredibly proud to have worked with the American Cancer Society on SB 435, which passed the Senate Floor on April 16th. SB 435 will expand Tennessean’s biomarker testing access for all forms of cancer and other rare and infectious diseases.
The 114th General assembly is adjourned. “Sine die” is a Latin phrase meaning “without a day.”
Last year, Cannon County received a clean financial and compliance audit from the Comptroller of the Treasury.

Yesterday, the Tennessee General Assembly passed the state’s $58 billion dollar budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. Passing the following year’s budget is the General Assembly’s only constitutional responsibility and signals that the legislative session is coming to a close.
I had the honor of introducing Pastor Dean Anderson on the Senate Floor as today’s Minister of the Day. Pastor Anderson serves First Baptist Church in Woodbury, Tennessee.
Happy Good Friday! This week on Reeves’ Tennessee Top 5, I’m keeping things short and sweet.
1. Two of our final committees, State and Local Government and Health Welfare, closed this week.
2. The budget will likely be presented on the Senate floor on April 15th.
3. I passed SB 2556 through the Senate Health and Welfare Committee this week. This bill will make new FDA approved and DEA scheduled medications available sooner for Tennesseans.
4. I had the honor of bringing my intern, Alaya Fuqua, on the Senate floor on Thusday. I am so grateful to have had her in my office this session.

One of my bills, SB 2558, is heading to the Governor’s desk for signature. SB2558/HB2517 provides clarification on the authority of the Tennessee State Veterinarian.
