On Week 3 of Reeves’ Tennessee Top 5, I have 5 important things to share with you all:
1. Governor Bill Lee gave his eighth and final State of the State Address on Monday, February 2nd, where he laid out his legislative priorities for this Session.
2. Our bill filing deadline was also Monday, February 2nd. All members of the General Assembly had to file their bills for this Session before Monday afternoon. I have almost 50 bills this Session, with most of them being related to health, commerce, energy, and agriculture.
3. On Tuesday, February 3rd, The Cancer Action Society Cancer Action Network held a press conference regarding SB 435, a bill that I’m sponsoring with Representative Brock Martin. This bill would make biomarker testing for all forms of cancer, Alzheimer’s, and other diseases more accessible for Tennesseans.
4. On Wednesday, February 4th, the Senate Energy, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Committee held a joint meeting with the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee to learn about the issues that the row crop industry has been having in Tennessee.
5. The Governor and General Assembly were visited by Secretary Robert F Kennedy on Wednesday, February 4th. Secretary Kennedy came to speak to us about the health initiatives he’s working on in Washington, D.C.
Yesterday, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. came to speak to Governor Lee and the House and Senate Health committees about federal health initiatives and opportunities for state partnership. Thank you @robertfkennedyjr for your service to this country.
Yesterday, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network held a press conference in support of SB 435 / HB 484, which is being sponsored by Representative Greg Martin and I. SB 435 / HB 484 if passed would require health benefit and TennCare plans to cover biomarker testing for all forms of cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and many other rare and infectious diseases. This legislation would give Tennesseans access to preventative and life-saving healthcare.
Yesterday, Governor Lee held his 8th and final State of the State Address where he shared his legislative priorities for this session. I’m grateful for Governor Lee’s leadership and dedication to this great state.
