State Senate District 14

As a seventh-generation Tennessean, Senator Shane Reeves has spent his life raising a family and opening businesses in middle Tennessee. He understands the importance of family, character, and conservative values to the people in this community.

For this week’s Reeves’ Top 5, I have a few important things to share with you all:

1. This past Monday was President’s Day! One of my favorite presidents, Teddy Roosevelt, has a great quote about feeling like you’re living in the arena. I sure felt like I was living in the arena this week!

2. Many of my bills passed through committees this week. One that I am particularly proud of is SB 1935, regarding Homestead Exemptions. When a husband or wife dies after filing for bankruptcy, surviving spouses and children can claim up to $35,000. This bill would allow adult children with intellectual and developmental disabilities to claim the $35,000 Homestead Exemption as well.

3. On Wednesday, the Energy, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Committee heard budget presentations from the Department of Agriculture & The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

4. This week, I was visited by so many utility districts, including Duck River Electric, Middle Tennessee Electric, and Caney Fork Electric.

5. We are halfway done with Session! We’re almost at the 8 week mark with 8 weeks to go! To schedule an appointment with me, call 615-741-1066 and ask for Lucie.

I have some important things to share with you all this week. Keep watching for a special surprise at the end!

1. The last week has been crazy busy here in Nashville — from the many visitors to my office, to the committee meetings I’ve had, to the receptions I’ve attended. Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and the University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK), both of which I’m an alumni of, held their receptions this week. It was good to see my friends from both universities.

2. The General Assembly began to hear budget presentations from many departments, including TennCare, Commerce, Labor and Workforce Development, and Tourism

3. NFIB came to visit me this week to discuss how we can continue to help small businesses in Tennessee. I’ve been a member of NFIB for years and served their leadership council for several years.

4. Next week, I will begin presenting my personal legislation in committees. I have bills in the Commerce, State & Local Government, and Judiciary committees. I’m particularly excited about SB 422, which would provide additional prosthetics to children who want to be more active.

5. I was visited by students from Saint Rose Catholic Church this Thursday, and they have a special message for you!

On Week 3 of Reeves’ Tennessee Top 5, I have 5 important things to share with you all:

1. Governor Bill Lee gave his eighth and final State of the State Address on Monday, February 2nd, where he laid out his legislative priorities for this Session.

2. Our bill filing deadline was also Monday, February 2nd. All members of the General Assembly had to file their bills for this Session before Monday afternoon. I have almost 50 bills this Session, with most of them being related to health, commerce, energy, and agriculture.

3. On Tuesday, February 3rd, The Cancer Action Society Cancer Action Network held a press conference regarding SB 435, a bill that I’m sponsoring with Representative Brock Martin. This bill would make biomarker testing for all forms of cancer, Alzheimer’s, and other diseases more accessible for Tennesseans.

4. On Wednesday, February 4th, the Senate Energy, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Committee held a joint meeting with the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee to learn about the issues that the row crop industry has been having in Tennessee.

5. The Governor and General Assembly were visited by Secretary Robert F Kennedy on Wednesday, February 4th. Secretary Kennedy came to speak to us about the health initiatives he’s working on in Washington, D.C.

1. Tennessee is expected to get a massive snowstorm this week, which means that the legislature will not be in session next week. Stay safe and enjoy the snow!

2. I’ve had several groups visit my office this week, including the Tennessee Association of Optometrists and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants. Make sure to reach out to my office to get on my calendar this session!

The Senate Energy, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Committee met on Wednesday to hear presentations from TDEC (Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation) and ECD (Economic and Community Development) regarding the progress of the Nuclear Advisory Council and the Tennessee Aquarium on their conservation efforts.

4. The Solid Waste Task Force met on Thursday to continue discussing potential legislative solutions for Tennessee’s solid waste problem.
