January 15, 2019 — State Senators Dawn White and Shane Reeves announced today that the City of Murfreesboro will receive a $2 million state grant for the Murfreesboro Municipal Airport from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). The grant is available through TDOT’s Aeronautics Economic Development Fund. The funds will be used for the construction of a maintenance hangar in the south terminal development area for maintenance, repair and overhaul expansion.
“As Murfreesboro continues to grow, airport infrastructure is a very important economic development tool,” said Senator White. “We are pleased these funds have been approved.”
Only eight airports in the state received funding during this round of grants.
Tennessee’s aerospace sector has a rich combination of research assets, capital investment opportunities, advanced manufacturing expertise, accessibility to educational resources, and workforce capacity. The Aeronautics Economic Development fund provides an excellent opportunity for new or expanding aerospace programs.
“This airport is very important to Murfreesboro, and I am glad these funds will be available to help with improvements,” said Senator Reeves. “I am hopeful that we will continue to see many more grants coming into Murfreesboro in the future.”
